Article Processing Charge (APC)

BROAD, as an independent open-access publisher based in the United Kingdom, operates a transparent fee policy designed to sustain the quality of its publications and support the principles of open access. Authors are required to pay Article Processing Charges (APCs) based on a four-tier structure, taking into account the economic circumstances of different countries.

Notes:

(i) The author's teaching or research affiliation is considered while setting APC, irrespective of their national background. For example, an author teaching in the USA falls within Tier 1, although they have a different national background. In the case of authors from multiple nations, we set the APC based on the first author’s affiliation. However, if there is more than one author from a Tier 1 country listed above in the author list, we charge Tier 1 APC.

(ii) No request for further waivers is expected or accepted. The above list of APCs was devised based on the waiver policy of the journal.

(iii) The author of more than one research paper will get a 20% waiver on further publications in any BROAD journal.

Waivers

BROAD acknowledges the financial challenges faced by certain individuals in the academic community and extends APC waivers to currently unemployed teachers, graduate, and doctoral researchers. In that case, BROAD follows Tier 4 (£199) APC structure. However, the respective author must demonstrate the adequate evidence of their financial hardship.

No Submission Fee

Authors are not required to pay any submission fees when submitting their manuscripts to the journal. We believe in reducing financial barriers to access and providing an open platform for researchers to share their work.

Why APCs?

As a for-profit open-access publisher, BROAD relies on Article Processing Charges (APCs) to support the financial sustainability of its publishing model. The implementation of APCs is crucial for several reasons:

Indexing, Archiving and Membership: BROAD is a member of CrossRef, CrossCheck, OPEN, ETHICS, DOAP, ARCHIVING®, and SPAC. In Addition, all the published papers in BROAD journals are also archived in many paid directories like PubWeb™, ScienceWide, SciReps, and so on.

Quality Assurance: APCs contribute to maintaining high editorial and publishing standards. They enable thorough peer review processes, professional editorial oversight, and ensure the integrity and credibility of the scholarly content published by BROAD.

Open Access Sustainability: APCs are vital for covering the costs associated with the production, distribution, and long-term preservation of open-access content. They play a pivotal role in sustaining the accessibility of research to a global audience without relying on traditional subscription models.

Innovation and Technology: BROAD's commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements requires substantial investments in digital infrastructure, software, and other tools that enhance the dissemination and discoverability of open-access content. APCs contribute to the continuous improvement of these platforms.

Author Services: APCs enable BROAD to provide comprehensive author services, including editorial support, manuscript formatting, and assistance throughout the publication process. This ensures a seamless and professional experience for authors submitting their work to BROAD journals.

Global Outreach: By utilizing APCs, BROAD can adopt a tiered pricing structure that considers the economic disparities among countries. This approach fosters global inclusivity, allowing researchers from diverse regions to participate in open-access publishing.

Financial Viability: As a for-profit publisher, APCs are essential for maintaining financial viability and supporting ongoing operations. They contribute to covering the overhead costs associated with editorial staff, administrative expenses, and other aspects of running a successful publishing enterprise.

While acknowledging the importance of APCs, BROAD remains committed to maintaining a balance between financial sustainability and ensuring equitable access to open-access publishing. The revenue generated from APCs directly contributes to BROAD's ability to provide a platform for the global dissemination of high-quality research.
